Why I Chose Freelancing (and What It Means for My Clients)
In today’s fast-evolving world, businesses are under pressure to adapt. They’re shifting models, reducing headcount, and automating everything from internal communications to customer service. Efficiency is the name of the game. And yet ironically, what’s becoming more valuable than ever is the human element: clear communication, cross-functional leadership, emotional intelligence, and the ability to bring people together around a shared goal.
This paradox is what makes freelance project management so relevant right now.
Companies still need someone to lead. Someone who can manage the end-to-end rollout of a new system, coordinate a marketing campaign across multiple stakeholders, or bring order to the chaos of a product launch. But in a world where much of the busywork can be automated, the need for a full-time, salaried employee in that role becomes harder to justify, especially for smaller businesses trying to stay lean.
At the same time, I’ve come to believe the traditional 9-to-5 model is fundamentally outdated. Success shouldn’t be measured by hours logged, but by outcomes. If your company is profitable, your projects are progressing, and your clients are happy, it shouldn’t matter whether someone worked five hours or forty-five. The real challenge? Getting the right systems and processes in place so the business runs smoothly regardless of who’s in the room.
But most business owners don’t have time to create that kind of infrastructure, and often, they don’t know where to start.
That’s where I come in.
In my former 9-5 life, I experienced the imbalance firsthand. Some days, I was drowning in deliverables. Other days, all my projects were humming along smoothly, and I’d have just a few hours of meaningful work to do, yet I still had to sit there, act ‘busy’, and fill the clock. It felt inefficient. And honestly, a little disheartening. For both me and the company.
Now, as a freelance project manager, I work differently and deliver better results. I show up when it counts. I lead initiatives with intention. I create systems that remove friction and give people time back. I’m not here to clock hours. I’m here to move things forward.
I believe wholeheartedly that my skills, most notably organization, communication, and team leadership, are best leveraged on a fractional basis. Companies get the expertise they need, without the overhead they don’t. And I get to do the kind of work that lights me up: helping people execute with clarity, purpose, and confidence.
Since launching Managed by Megan, I’ve supported clients across a variety of industries. I’ve helped launch campaigns, streamline operations, and bring calm to chaotic timelines. But more importantly, I’ve been able to do it with full presence, thoughtfulness, and care.
If you're overwhelmed by competing priorities or have big projects that keep stalling out, I get it. And I can help.
Because freelancing isn’t just about me.
It’s about you getting the kind of partnership you deserve.
